About the Author

Jonathan Dorf has had his plays produced in more than 40 states, as well as in Canada, Australia, New Zealand, Europe and Asia. He has been a finalist for the Actors Theatre of Louisville Heideman Award and has worked with such companies as the Walnut Street Theatre, Playwrights Theatre of New Jersey, Ensemble Studio Theatre - LA, Moving Arts and the Pittsburgh New Works Festival. His plays are published by Brooklyn Publishers, Eldridge Publishing, Original Works and Playscripts, Inc., and his monologues appear in collections by Meriwether and Smith & Kraus.

He is the resident playwriting expert for Final Draft (for whom he created the playwriting "Ask the Expert") and The Writers Store (creator of Playwriting101.com and playwriting instructor at Writers University), the co-chair of the Alliance of Los Angeles Playwrights and the former managing director of the Philadelphia Dramatists Center. He is also a member of the Dramatists Guild of America and serves as a consultant for writers across the country.

Dorf has been working with young writers for more than 15 years. He headed the drama program at Philadelphia's prestigious Haverford School, where his students won young playwrights competitions as far away as Los Angeles and the United Kingdom. He served as a mentor in the Philadelphia Young Playwrights program, and later spent three years as playwright-in-residence at the Choate Rosemary Hall Summer Arts Conservatory, developing new scripts for their young company members and teaching playwriting. Dorf has been a guest artist at the International Thespian Festival, the Tennessee Arts Academy (where he taught master classes to the state's theatre teachers), the state Thespian festivals in California, Florida, Georgia, Missouri, Ohio and Tennessee, and more than a dozen schools and youth theatres through the United States, as well as in the United Kingdom. He recently served as Visiting Associate Professor of Theatre at Hollins University, where he taught in the MFA playwriting program, and, under the auspices of the US State Department, served as Cultural Envoy to Barbados, where he taught a playwriting workshop and worked with local theatre practitioners.
